Overcoming Fear of Going to the Dentist

Following are some great exercises you could try before visiting the Dentist.  Give them a try and see how they can help you before your next visit.

Positive Self-Talk

Tell yourself “It feels good to be taking care of my teeth and gums.”  Give yourself credit: “I’ve been through other tense situations and every thing turned out fine.”  “I’m in good hands with the doctor and staff.”

Deep Muscle Relaxation

Relax you muscles by starting to focus on your forehead.  Picture
yourself in one of your favorite places, like a beautiful park or on the beach.

Distraction Technique

Visualize images in detail:  swimming in a tropical lagoon, walking through a field of flowers, cheering at the ballpark, playing with your cat.  Any enjoyable image will help take your mind off what’s happening in the dental chair.

And take note that with all the advanced techniques and new procedures going to the Dentist can be a positive experience and something that change your health and life in general for the better.
